California enacts first gun and ammunition tax in the country

KTXL) — California Governor Gavin Newsom signed several firearms and ammunition-related bills into law on Tuesday, including one to tax guns and ammunition and another that places more rules on people seeking a concealed carry weapons permit.

The federal government already taxes the sale of guns and ammunition at either 10% or 11%, depending on the type of gun. With the signing of AB 28 on Tuesday, California will now add an 11% excise tax on the purchase of guns and ammunition, an amount that the bill’s author states is lower than the excise tax on marijuana sales.

Wow, Gov Gavin Newsom Signs 20% Total 'Sin Tax' On Guns & Ammunition

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has once again demonstrated his tyrannical approach to governance by signing into law another outrageous 11 percent tax on guns and ammunition. He cynically dubs this blatant infringement on our Second Amendment rights a "sin tax," as if law-abiding gun owners are somehow sinners for exercising their constitutional freedoms.

Under these two new laws, Californians will be further stripped of their ability to protect themselves, as the state will now ban the carrying of firearms in most public places. Furthermore, the federal government already imposes taxes on the sale of guns and ammunition, ranging from 10% to 11%, depending on the type of firearm.

However, Newsom's latest maneuver adds yet another 11% tax on top of these existing federal taxes, making California the sole state in the nation with such an egregious, double-barreled tax on guns and ammunition.

When asked why he doesn't use the general fund to combat gun violence, Newsom dismissively responded, "I respectfully disagree, and my signature represents that disagreement." In other words, he refuses to acknowledge the legitimate concerns of those who believe this new tax is unnecessary and unjust.

Californians deserve better than to be subjected to the whims of a tyrant governor who prioritizes his own agenda over the rights of the people he is supposed to serve.

They should tax registered democrats as a sin tax.

Figures. CA can't do anything that is in harmony with the Constitution.

Ca has ballot initiatives that should be used. In fact any state that has ballot initiatives should get something passed that says any new laws enacted have to pass constitutional inspection before being enacted. In addition any politician that attempts to propose or vote for such unconstitutional measures will be immediately;y removed from office and hung by the neck until dead in a public display.

Maybe this leads to courts striking down even the Federal sales tax.

Federal sales tax is definitely unconstitutional. that's why you hear those in office suggest that as a replacement for the income tax from time to time but it never goes anywhere. They know they can't do a national sales tax but you see how they creep it in. Just on guns for now but later they expand it once everyone accepts the fact that they have a power that they really don't have.
Dave Champion had a good video on the subject recently. I'll see if I can find it again. It wasn't very long. Maybe 20 minutes.

Towards the end, around 17 minutes in or so he talks about what a with holding agent is as well. The should solidify the argument that income taxes deducted from cost Americans paychecks are actually legal. In fact they are not but corporations refuse to follow the law. Big incentives for corporations to collect those taxes for fed Gov which is why there are huge tax breaks for corps and the very wealthy.
