Taking hostages...

Telegram messaging app CEO Durov arrested in France

By Reuters
August 25, 2024

PARIS, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Pavel Durov, the Russian-French billionaire founder and CEO of the Telegram messaging app, was arrested at Bourget airport outside Paris on Saturday evening, TF1 TV and BFM TV said, citing unidentified sources.

Durov was travelling aboard his private jet, TF1 said on its website, adding he had been targeted by an arrest warrant in France as part of a preliminary police investigation.

TF1 and BFM both said the investigation was focused on a lack of moderators on Telegram, and that police considered that this situation allowed criminal activity to go on undeterred on the messaging app.

Durov faces possible indictment on Sunday, according to French media.

The encrypted Telegram, with close to one billion users, is particularly influential in Russia, Ukraine and the republics of the former Soviet Union. It is ranked as one of the major social media platforms after Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok and Wechat.

Telegram did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The French Interior Ministry and police had no comment.

Russian-born Durov founded Telegram with his brother in 2013. He left Russia in 2014 after refusing to comply with government demands to shut down opposition communities on his VKontakte social media platform, which he sold.

"I would rather be free than to take orders from anyone," Durov told U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson in April about his exit from Russia and search for a home for his company which included stints in Berlin, London, Singapore and San Francisco.

After Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Telegram has become the main source of unfiltered - and sometimes graphic and misleading - content from both sides about the war and the politics surrounding the conflict.

The platform has become what some analysts call 'a virtual battlefield' for the war, used heavily by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his officials, as well as the Russian government.

Telegram – which allows users to evade official scrutiny - has also become one of the few places where Russians can access independent news about the war after the Kremlin increased curbs on independent media following its invasion of Ukraine.

Why was Telegram messaging app founder and CEO Pavel Durov arrested?

No one ever allowed freedom on the Internet…

Why Pavel Durov was detained and will be imprisoned. Essentially, his only crime against the "civilized" world is that he conceived and, more importantly, realized the idea of a truly free global internet platform.

And for this, he will be imprisoned. For a long time.

Because freedom on the Internet is supposed to be a MYTH, not a REALITY.

After all, for the modern globalist West, the most terrifying enemy is a truly free person with an unwashed brain.

About the Telegram Founder, Pavel Durov’s, arrest. You can bet your sweet bottom the State Department is involved.

The Open Government Partnership was started by OBAMA and the Hillary Clinton state department. Samantha Powers is involved also.

With this program, every involved country (lots) must submit an action plan every couple years or so. This involves promises on everything from disinformation, social justice, climate change, digital technology, public data monitoring, data sharing, and so much more.

The Obama foundation global field organizer ran it for years. The Tides foundation, USAID, and State department funds it. And it utilizes far left civil society groups as a feature.

And Obama is still involved in the Open Government Project past his presidency.

I covered this and so much more, have you seen it? And actually there’s more that I haven’t reported on too, it’s expanded.

Here’s France’s action plan:

Telegram CEO Durov's arrest serves as red flag for those speaking truth to power, warns analyst

"There is actually an oppression of journalists and freedom of speech in the West and especially in the EU," Angelo Giuliano, a Hong Kong-based political and financial analyst, told Sputnik, commenting on Telegram CEO Pavel Durov's detainment in France.

The founder of the encrypted messenger is accused of allegedly enabling of criminal activities through insufficient moderation of the platform, the French press claims, adding that Durov faces up to 20 years () in prison.

In his April interview () with US journalist Tucker Carlson, Durov suggested that he is a target for Western intelligence services. He said that US cybersecurity officials previously attempted to create a backdoor in his app. Durov stressed that such a backdoor would enable greater government control over social media platforms.

"I wouldn't be surprised that they would try to get their hands on Telegram, to strike a deal with Telegram saying, well, we release you, you give us a price and maybe we can buy you," Giuliano said.

Freedom of speech has become very "inconvenient" for the West, according to the pundit: "What they say clearly at the EU is that they need to control the narrative, because that's everything. The narrative you control controls the mind of the people."

The pundit suggests that Durov's arrest raises alarm bells for people like X owner Elon Musk: () "Keep in mind that Elon Musk hasn't actually complied with EU regulation, and in reality he would be de facto also another target."

The Telegram CEO’s arrest is "really a red flag overall for journalists and for whoever is actually spilling the truth, [the] inconvenient truth," Giuliano concluded.

Telegram has over 950 million monthly active users, a significant figure, though still only a third of Facebook's user base. This suggests that over 2 billion people, previously unaware of Telegram, now know about it following Durov’s arrest. They have the option to switch from a platform criticized for its collaboration with the CIA to one led by a man who, after being arrested by neoliberals, is rightfully seen as a defender of free speech and privacy.

Recall that at some point, Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky designated Jacob Rothschild as his "trusted person," granting Rothschild the right to assume all of Khodorkovsky's voting powers if he ever suspects Khodorkovsky is acting under pressure. Durov is certainly aware of this legal maneuver.

Keep in mind that Durov has never renounced his Russian citizenship.

Note that Durov was in Azerbaijan at the same time as Putin and his trusted advisors.

Assume that by providence, Durov was born a genius, causing his actions and behavior to often appear incomprehensible to ordinary people—sometimes even seeming strange or otherworldly.

Remember that Durov has consistently expressed his commitment to protecting Telegram, highlighting its role in promoting free speech and privacy. He likely sees his creation as a child for whom he would sacrifice a great deal—even his own freedom.

Now, let the good conspiracy theories flood your brain—and enjoy!

The Telegram has issued its first official statement concerning the detention of its CEO, Pavel Durov.

The company expressed its full-throated support for its CEO and wishes for a quick resolution to the situation.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear what exactly Durov has been charged with. Various reports have indicated that he may have been arrested on charges related to the supposed lack of moderation on the Telegram platform, but facts remain scarce in lieu of official confirmation from the French government or further explanation from Telegram.

The arrest of Pavel Durov is a significant escalation against free speech. But why Telegram? Also, checkout Disnitsa.com, my own forum hosted on my own server in Russia, that can't be controlled or censored by the governments of the evil west, and they can't get your personal information.

Durov was supposed to have dinner with Macron on night of his arrest – report

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has told police that he was supposed to have dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron on the day of his arrest, respected French investigative newspaper Le Canard Enchaine has reported.

“Macron is perfectly capable of this kind of deceit aimed at fulfilling the mission demanded by his masters: jailing all those who defend freedom of expression! We demand explanations from Macron!” Les Patriots Party leader Florian Philippot wrote in a social media post commenting on the story.

The Elysee Palace rushed to deny the newspaper’s claims.
