One report I'd read is that it was taking on water at the bow.

Of course that would help things now. But having spaces underwater for five weeks, and then needing to pump them out to get the wreck into port for unloading and repair...a nightmare.

They may also have taken on ballast - they've had five weeks to figure it out.

The economic cost of the channel shutdown increases each day, and the insurance market is watching closely. Several insurers - notably specialist firm Hiscox - have signaled that losses from the disaster will be "moderate." The cost of bridge reconstruction alone will be at least $1.9 billion, but the question of who will pay has not been settled. The shipowner and operator have filed suit to limit damages to less than $50 million, equal to the post-casualty value of the ship minus the cost of salvage. If this limitation of liability action is successful, the exposure of the ship's insurers would be limited accordingly.​

I thought the government (i.e., we) was picking up the tab?

Also, they must be 'selling' all the salvaged materials to someone. Where is all that money going?

Introduction
At about 1:30 a.m. on March 26, 2024, the MV Dali, a container ship departing the Port of Baltimore, struck a support tower of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD, causing the bridge to collapse into the Patapsco River. The bridge is a segment of Interstate 695—Baltimore’s beltway—and spans the Patapsco shipping channel into the harbor.

A pothole repair crew of eight was on the bridge at the time of the collision. Two have survived; one with injuries. Authorities were able to stop traffic over the bridge right before the vessel strike. There were 23 mariners aboard the ship, and none sustained injury. A Unified Command and Joint Information Center have been established by the U.S. Coast Guard and Maryland state officials to coordinate their response and disseminate information on the incident.

Well...so far what they've done mostly has worked.

I'm betting they want to blow stuff up because it's a 'new' tech they want to use...?
 
Nothing new about that. It's been used in demolition and removal of bridges, for decades.

Packing charges against critical supports in steel structures, has LONG been the basis for explosive demolition work.

But I don't trust GOVERNMENT FUNCTIONARIES with explosives, fire, matches. GIVEN that they take orders, some more than others, from the Davos Supper Club. Again, consider New Palestine. The area depends on well water; and the MEDIUH SILENCE tells me more than their lies ever would. I'm betting the aquifer is poisoned with that dioxin release, for all time.

I'm also betting that affected parties have been told to say nothing, else they'll be blocked from any future relocation or compensation. Make a deal with your torturers...especially when they own a money-press.
 
Update: The Unified Command reports the controlled demolition has been delayed till Sunday late afternoon due to weather concerns. After that they plan an inspection of the Dali and possibly dredging before the vessel can be removed to the Baltimore berth.

The authorities leading the recovery operation in Baltimore have declined comments on the timeline for the next steps including the removal of the Dali only saying that systematic preparations were underway and that they remain on target to open the full channel by the end of the month. The Baltimore Sun newspaper however is reporting that it obtained an email showing the vessel will be moved to the dock on or about Tuesday, May 14, and handed over to investigators.

The Unified Command alerted the media of a tentative plan subject to weather and other conditions for the controlled demolition of the section of the bridge on the bow of the Dali. It is scheduled for Saturday afternoon with teams then prepared to use the giant claws to remove the sections which should fall into the water around the ship. The goal has been to lighten the forward section of the Dali to refloat the vessel.

Is it just me or is this story not dying? For some reason it's the gift that keeps on giving. I haven't kept track of the thread but everywhere I look, it reeks of shenanigans on multiple levels.

Gulf waterway closed after barge slams into bridge | LiveNOW from FOX​

A floating barge hit the Pelican Island Causeway Wednesday morning in Galveston County, Texas, damaging the bridge and closing the waterway to drivers. It also caused an oil spill according to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

Anyone on Pelican Island will have to use a boat to leave for the time being. The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway is closed down as officials respond to this incident, County Judge Mark Henry said, adding that the oil spill is why the U.S. Coast Guard decided to move forward with a closure.

The closure is a significant issue for maritime commercial traffic and civilian driving, as hundreds of people use the waterway along the Texas coast every day.

I thought that schitte was settled weeks ago.

Nope, no Space Aliens using the Internet to control a ship's rudder. No conspiracy with hidden stowaways to run into the bridge. Probably the captain will lose his job once the ship is brought into drydock, anyway...he'd have been crazy, had it even been possible, given how two Baltimore harbor pilots were controlling the ship's movement.

But, the only entity more stupid than government, is an elected official of government.
