The woman who appeared on TV claiming to be Los Angeles' latest Powerball winner is a fraud who 'just wanted to get on the news', DailyMail.com can reveal.

Footage of the 'hysterical' woman walking into Las Palmitas Mini Mart – a small bodega in east LA that sold the lucky $1.08billion ticket – went viral after it appeared on local news channel KTLA last night.

But DailyMail.com can reveal the real winner is still yet to come forward with Sarai Palacios, the granddaughter of bodega owner Nabor Herrera, 52, telling DailyMail.com the woman hasn't won a thing.

I used to work for a hospital in the mental health department. Had 4 or 5 lottery winners as patients. All of them were suffering from depression due to the changes in their lives after winning big. It's not always what it's cracked up to be.
 
On the street where my wife's grandparents lived when she was young, a neighbor that lived a few houses down from her grandparents won the Publisher's Clearinghouse sweepstakes. I don't know if they got to meet Ed McMahon or not, but the neighbors didn't really do anything extravagant after winning (that was known the grandparents/other neighbors anyway).

Mega Millions jackpot approaching $900 million: What to know about the next lottery drawing​

The Mega Millions has been steadily growing since it was last won in December, with the jackpot now approaching $900 million ahead of the next drawing.

The jackpot currently sits at an estimated $875 million with a $413.5 million cash option ahead of Tuesday's drawing, in what is still the sixth-largest prize in the game's history.

No one has won the Mega Millions since December 2023, when two tickets in California shared the $394 million jackpot. The largest jackpot ever won in the Mega Millions lottery was in August 2023, when a single ticket won the $1.602 billion prize out of Neptune Beach, Florida.

Yeah. Lotta taxes and in certain states you can't be anonymous if you hit. They want to put your name (and in some cases your pic) out in public. Not cool, in my opinion.

Online-gambling giants conquer U.S. with tactics deemed too tough for Britain​

Amid a U.S. boom in betting online, the European companies behind FanDuel and BetMGM are using features in America that they dropped in Britain after acknowledging them as risks to gamblers.

In 2018, British regulators sanctioned the UK arm of online gambling giant Flutter (FLTRF.L) after it failed to catch an astonishing anomaly. The head of an animal shelter had been embezzling money from his employer to fund his bets, losing what the charity said was more than half a million dollars over four years. The gambling watchdog forced Flutter to pay about $2.8 million for not protecting customers from obviously uncontrolled gambling and not stopping the use of stolen money.

Flutter’s Chief Executive Peter Jackson publicly apologized for failing to intervene, saying the company had a responsibility to do so “when our customers show signs of problem gambling.”

Over the next few years, another one of Jackson’s customers — this time in America — spiraled even further out of control, gambling millions of dollars of stolen money with Flutter’s U.S. brand FanDuel. Amit Patel, then a mid-level finance manager at the Jacksonville Jaguars football team, deposited $20 million of his employer’s money into his FanDuel account between 2019 and early 2023, and then lost most of those embezzled dollars, according to court documents. Patel and the British animal-shelter chief each pleaded guilty to fraud.

Despite the enormous sums, FanDuel didn’t question the source of Patel’s funds until late 2022, his lawyer, Alex King, told Reuters. Patel’s annual salary was less than $90,000, King said. FanDuel not only didn’t intervene as Patel’s losses snowballed, according to King, but also assigned Patel a VIP customer representative who encouraged him to continue gambling.

My take on that? Don't waste twenty minutes.

Added: I have thought that if I won some huge lottery, I would use most of it to fund FDA studies to medically prove (or disprove) various cheap or free protocols to combat the industry's need to suck money from people with problems.

Overall, gambling is dumb, but I still put a few dollars in the pot.....I firmly believe casinos are rigged.
 
Casinos are rigged, by law. They must payout a certain % at the slots. The other games the house also has an advantage being the dealer plus how many card decks are used and how the cards are arranged.

Unless you hit really big, then they'll find an excuse to cheat ya out of it.





Even on the gaming apps online. When you win, it's a bug in the software.



Then they might serve you cleaning solvent to drink.
