A federal judge in West Virginia has ruled that a federal ban on possessing a gun with its serial number removed is unconstitutional, the first such ruling since the U.S. Supreme Court dramatically expanded gun rights in June.
The decision came in a criminal case charging a man, Randy Price, with illegally possessing a gun with the serial number removed that was found in his car. The judge dismissed that charge, though Price is still charged with illegally possessing the gun after being convicted of previous felonies.

Or maybe wait a bit....

He is still up on charges for having guns in his possession, the judge is saying that 1965 federal requirement is NOT constitutional. George Washington's guns weren't traceable, why should yours be? Unless you want to put your name on them yourself.

For reasons of warrantee or if my guns are stolen.

I do not intend to commit any crimes with my guns and am not concerned that they have serial# on them.

On the other hand I don't like that my entire existance is an open book, but this is the day and age we live in.
 
200 years ago as well as today, it was not unusual for a firearm to have 3 or 4 legitimate owners during it's useful lifetime. Knowing this, our rulers imposed their unconstitutional serial number law on us as a measure to incrementally criminalize gun ownership and provide welfare for attorneys.
If your legally purchased (in your name) firearm is stolen and you report it, the person downstream who purchases it and is charged with receiving stolen property is most likely someone who did not steal it and didn't know it was stolen.

Does that come under the heading tough titty or know who you're dealing with?

It would be nice if the gun got returned to me in the case where it was stolen.

all of this works well in a world of honest people but that's not where we are and continuing to 'feed the monster' isn't gonna help make it go away

if theft is that large of a concern, and you're willing to give some of your freedoms away, in order for you to simply feel better about possessing your stuff, that generally means you're not trying to protect your stuff hard enough and are willing to accept placing it's care under someone else's authority, willing to allow that responsibility and personal side of your life to be handled by someone else, thereby always protecting Hope in your heart...

Oh well let me go file all the serial#s off my guns great idea, why didn't I think of that. /sarc
 
So the advice I am being given here is to file the serial'#s off my legally purchased firearm, bought through FFL's, so that I can be "free".

Buck do you live in CA? Have you filed the serial'#s off your guns?

I would not possess guns without serial'#s, EXCEPT IF it's the EOTWAWKI. It's a good way to become a felon where I live.
If the thief filed the serial'#s off my guns that would probably indicate I was dead.

At one time I had a Belgian Fabrique Nationale pistol that had no serial numbers on it. A Family member took it off a surrendered Gestapo agent in 1945. It is now in the hands of another Family member.

you were the one who mentioned theft several times, i'm only pointing out what i can tell from what information i have

my bad, i won't point out what you're posting, any longer

come on man...

in the crap hole i live in, no one is even allowed to see any weapon whether carrying it from your house to your trunk or traveling with it...etc

covered, locked inside it's case...etc

i'll tell ya what, if anyone were to steal a Legal Firearm in this state they're gonna have to break it out of it's cocoon first, then remove the trigger lock and the barrel lock if you're doing it properly, then find the ammo, which is supposed to be locked away someplace different than that weapon locked into it's sarcophagus


and if after all of that, the thief still manages to untangle that weapon and use it, i'd still be to blame


so, perhaps theft is actually the Real Answer of handling these pesky weapons, serialized or not

does that help? because that's really all i got otherwise, i've got my Safe Position if needed but i don't think that'll be necessary...

i don't have the ability to describe, right now, what i've got here on the property, mostly because so much is illegitimate to the rest of the world

yes, i live on the left coast...fear is my motivating factor

i spread as much as i can, and so far, more think i'm a bit touched than think i'm much of anything more

i do have some strange things...but no where near where i wanted to be, as my dreams would go, as a child

Fergot to mention: The pistol never had serial numbers on it. It had been removed from the
Belgian factory by the occupying Gestapo prior to having any numbers stamped. I was offered $4K for it, but I would've had to change my name...

laws are for those who choose to follow them

since there are more firearms here than people imagine, i won't be alone

but, let me ask: when i goggle Liquor Stores Robbed, in Florida, Texas, etc...why are there are so damned many of them???

Your google must run as good as your Pacer does, because a quick google on my end shows the problem.

At least for Texas. I don't know what @Unca Walt has goin' on in FLAUSA.

Per google: Can you carry a gun in a liquor store in Texas?


Open carry rules:

You can openly carry rifles and shotguns in most places. One big exception to open carry is any establishment with a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission permit.

The problem there is YOU are not Large and In Charge.
Who is LIC will determine what is lawful and what is not. Your morality will not keep you safe from Creative EVIL.
