I may be the only member here (really don't know if I am) who honestly believes the two attempts on Trump were done by lone wolf nut jobs. The first guy just managed to slip by law enforcement due to some mistakes on their part. No clue what to say about the second guy. He had something like a hundred arrests under his belt and he was on the cop's radar. Probably a few more nuts out there running crackpot shit through their deranged minds.

New details have emerged about the FBI's 2018 probe into then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and how former President Donald Trump's White House made sure it never went anywhere.

According to the Washington Post, the White House quashed the FBI's investigation into Kavanaugh's alleged predatory sexual behavior despite promising the American public that the agency would have "free rein" to conduct a wide-ranging probe. The Post cited a report by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) – who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee — who provided new details on how the Trump administration tightly controlled the investigation into the ex-president's second Supreme Court nominee and made sure new leads were never pursued.

October 8 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, today released a report detailing disturbing shortcomings in the supplemental background investigation conducted after allegations of sexual misconduct emerged during the 2018 confirmation process of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Whitehouse’s report is the culmination of a six-year-long investigation hindered by executive branch obstruction, particularly during the Trump Administration.

The four key findings of Whitehouse’s years-long investigation into this episode are:

• The supplemental background investigation was completely controlled by the Trump White House. The FBI was never given “free rein” to conduct a thorough, complete investigation. Statements to the contrary from former President Trump and White House and Department of Justice officials were false.

• Trump White House and FBI assertions that the Kavanaugh supplemental background investigation was conducted “by the book” according to standard FBI procedures were false and misleading, failing to disclose that there are no standard procedures for supplemental background investigations. Instead, FBI practice, which the Trump Administration never disclosed, requires step-by-step instructions from the White House. This practice may be appropriate for handling many routine, minor questions that can arise after an initial background investigation, but it was uniquely inappropriate for investigating the serious, high-profile allegations against Kavanaugh.

• The investigation was directed by the Trump White House to pursue only first-hand evidence and not corroborating evidence. Senate Republicans then cited the absence of corroborating evidence to justify confirming Kavanaugh.

• The FBI’s public “tip line” investigation was a fake. No tip was ever investigated; Kavanaugh-related tips were delivered straight to the Trump White House without FBI investigation. Indeed, the Trump White House could have used tip line information to steer FBI investigators away from derogatory evidence.

Supreme Court Puppetmaster Tries to Buy Protection in Congress​

For months now, Leonard Leo - a conservative legal activist with a billion-dollar slush fund and an influential hand in the workings of the Supreme Court - has been refusing to comply with a Senate subpoena regarding his financial relationship with Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

Senate Democrats sent the subpoena six months ago, but they haven't moved to enforce it. Doing so would require 60 votes under the Senate's filibuster rules, and Republicans have no intent of helping Democrats scrutinize the activities of one of their most important allies.

The stakes of this year's congressional races are high for Leo. According to federal and state campaign finance records reviewed by Rolling Stone, Leo has been quietly dumping millions of dollars into competitive down-ballot races which - if Republicans manage to take control of Congress - could provide him with legal protection from congressional oversight.
