Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad boarded a plane to leave the country on Saturday, according to several media reports. His exit comes 12 days after a surprise uprising made a lightning dash to the capital of Damascus after capturing several major cities along the way. Meanwhile, there are claims that the jet carrying Assad either was shot down or had mechanical problems and crashed over Northwestern Syria.

“Assad left the country for an undisclosed location, fleeing ahead of insurgents who said they had entered Damascus after a stunning advance across the country,” The Associated Press reported, citing an interview with Rami Abdurrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). Abdurrahman told the AP that Assad took a flight Sunday from Damascus.

We've been playing both ends against the middle in the middle east for a long time. Not good, not smart. Came back to bite us in the ass on 9/11 and sooner or later it'll bite us in the ass again. Hopefully that won't include some religious psycho setting off nukes over here.

In my opinion the only reason we should be in the middle east is to keep the sea lanes open. And it should include a contingent of every industrialized country that has a navy and an air force (including China and Russia.) Time to end the attacks on merchant vessels.

Israeli Ground Forces Cross into Syria, Officials Say​

Israeli ground forces advanced beyond the demilitarized zone on the Israel-Syria border over the weekend, marking their first overt entry into Syrian territory since the 1973 October War, according to two Israeli officials speaking anonymously to discuss sensitive developments.

The Israeli deployment came amid a successful push by rebel groups in Syria to drive President Bashar al-Assad out of power and out of the country, prompting neighboring states to brace for more regional instability created by his sudden fall and flight.

Israeli forces took control of the mountain summit of Mount Hermon on the Syrian side of the border, as well as several other locations deemed essential for stabilizing control of the area.

The middle east is a millstone around our neck. Think of all the money we've spent there and then imagine what we could have done with it here (health care, food security, affordable housing, etc.) but no.............gotta keep feeding the MIC and involving ourselves in places we aren't welcome. In the bitter end we'll pay a price for this.

Exclusive-Iran in direct contact with groups in Syria's new leadership, Iranian official says​

DUBAI (Reuters) -Iran has opened a direct line of communication with rebels in Syria's new leadership since its ally Bashar al-Assad was ousted, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday, in an attempt to "prevent a hostile trajectory" between the countries.

The lightning advance of a militia alliance spearheaded by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a former al-Qaeda affiliate, marked one of the biggest turning points for the Middle East in generations. Assad's fall as president removed a bastion from which Iran and Russia exercised influence across the Arab world.

Hours after Assad's fall, Iran said it expected relations with Damascus to continue based on the two countries' "far-sighted and wise approach" and called for the establishment of an inclusive government representing all segments of Syrian society.

U.S. Wants to Keep ISIS From Taking Over Syria, Says Sullivan​

The United States’ top priority following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime is to ensure ISIS does not receive “new oxygen” and take control of Syria, said outgoing national security advisor Jake Sullivan said on Saturday.

Speaking at the Reagan National Security Forum in Simi, Calif., he added, “we are going to take steps ourselves, directly and working with the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Kurds, to ensure that does not happen.”

The forum’s day of discussions and interviews took place as the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, backed by Iran, Hezbollah and Russia was collapsing. Al-Assad fled the capital Damascus, on Sunday and was reportedly in Moscow.

No. I don't do that to anyone. You made a statement that the US destroyed Syria. I'd really like to hear what you have to say.

We, the US, have fucked over other countries - unfortunately that a fact. But Syria and a lot of other countries in the middle east were absolute shit hole toilets long before we ever showed up. This faction (of Arabs) hates that faction. These people hate them. They all hate the Israelis.

There is a lot of stuff on Syria here if you (or anyone else) is interested.
