So Israel did some sort of hacking attack on encrypted pagers purportedly used by Hezbollah. The attack caused the pagers to explode. Last I saw, folks on X claimed 9 dead and 3,000 injured in Lebanon. Escalation in progress...

Digusting... obviously pre-planned long in advance as the manufacturer would have had to place all those explosives.

Initial Thoughts on Attack Using Pagers Across Lebanon

Too early to draw conclusions, but the explosions do not appear consistent with typical battery fires/explosions associated with telecommunication devices or even larger power banks, and instead look like small explosives;

As the US compromises computer hardware on the factory floor with security back doors, Israel may have compromised a batch of pagers either at the factory or between manufacturing and distribution, placing a small remotely detonated explosive similar in size to a cherry bomb inside - this is pure speculation at this point;

The incident, regardless of the methods used, is a serious wake up call for nations and organizations about the central importance of technology and the need to be self-sufficient;

This technology should be approached in the same manner as arms and other high security items, not as consumer goods - technology and information space should both be seen as central to national security, not at its periphery;

Anything with a chain of custody that could potentially put a device or system in the enemy's hands before yours is a security threat;

US Terrorism, Tech Products, and the Enduring Importance of Tech Sovereignty

As early as 2015, based on an already established US practice of compromising tech hardware on the factory floor, I warned about the absolute necessity for tech sovereignty;

My article (under my Ulson Gunnar pen name) noted:

"the NSA has once again given the world a reason to boycott US tech giants and those within America’s sphere of influence, and replace them with locally produced alternatives manufactured under tighter security controls."

Nations like Russia and China began using locally produced processors and operating systems because of this, but almost 10 years later nations and organizations are STILL buying technology like consumers, tech whose chain of custody remains entirely in the hands of hostile actors before arrival/use;

There was nothing sophisticated about this US/Israeli/Taiwan operation - it was made possible by nonexistent security policies, incompetence, complacency, and deep, profound ignorance;

Even after the US and its proxies literally blow up 1000s of people with Western-made technology, nations around the globe will continue buying/using it for government/organizational/private use;

America isn't dangerous because of strength or cleverness, it is dangerous because so many still lack the capacity to understand it is this dangerous to begin with;

The Lebanon pager attack was a malicious but 100% predictable and preventable act of terrorism, responsibility also rests with Lebanese/Hezbollah security agencies for their inexcusable lack of vigilance;

The US and its proxies have proven they constitute the greatest threat to human peace and prosperity - not just the US government, but the institutions and industry it represents/holds influence over - this latest attack demonstrates nothing that takes place within this sphere of influence is safe and avoiding/replacing it should be the top national security priority of every nation in the multipolar world;

For Russia and China, making alternatives available for the expanding multipolar world presents a vast opportunity;

Here is the essential paragraph of my 2015 article warning about the importance of tech sovereignty for those who don't have the time/energy to read the whole article...

I will be doing a new article/video on this topic.

Revenge is best served cold...

Digusting... obviously pre-planned long in advance as the manufacturer would have had to place all those explosives.
Maybe an enterprising group of Israelis could have intercepted the shipping (or maybe it was an Israeli shipping company?) and installed C4 in the voids?

️ The mass detonation of communication devices in Lebanon requires an investigation and international attention to the issue, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

How Israel could have pulled off the ballsy pager attack on thousands of Hezbollah terrorists at once

By Caitlin Doornbos
Published Sep. 17, 2024

Hezbollah members rushed to hospital after pagers exploded

The stunning, simultaneous attack on thousands of Hezbollah terrorists by detonating their pagers had all the hallmarks of a highly complex covert operation — the kind that only Israel’s Mossad would have the means and motive to pull off, experts told The Post.

About 2,800 people were injured and nine others — including a child — were killed Tuesday in Lebanon and Syria — with the vast majority of victims appearing to be military-age men.

The simultaneous, dramatic explosions were shared in viral videos that spread online – but just how did they do it?

“This reeks of a planned IED event,” fire investigation expert and Jensen Hughes senior engineer Jerry Back told The Post on Tuesday.

“The fact that you had multiple events all occurring at the same time, it sounds to me like there were little explosive devices that were built into the equipment, that somebody was trying to light a lot of fires at once, and it had to be that somebody tapped into the manufacturing process,” he said.

A Hezbollah official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the “biggest security breach” the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel.

Nothing electronic is safe these days!

In Lebanon, wireless devices have started exploding again: if yesterday only pagers exploded, today computers, scooters and radios have been affected .

Sources told Reuters and The Times of Israel that the portable radios that exploded today were purchased by Hezbollah members five months ago, around the same time as the pagers that exploded the day before. Almayadeen clarified that the radios that detonated this time were ICOM V82s, which have lithium-ion batteries.

According to Axios, the radios were rigged with explosives by Israeli intelligence before being handed over to Hezbollah. The group planned to use them as part of an emergency communications system to be used during a potential conflict with Israel.

American University hospital in Lebanon may have been warned, they replaced their pagers 10 days ago...at least a few pagers were in the public, two children dead.

Trail of Exploding Pagers in Lebanon Runs to Taiwan, Hungary

Sep 19, 2024

The trail of the pagers that blew up in Lebanon runs as far as Taiwan and Hungary. Beirut has accused Israel’s Mossad spy service for what intelligence experts call one of the most audacious “supply-chain” operations in the history of spycraft. Bill Faries reports on Bloomberg Television.

British-educated businesswoman denies making Hezbollah explosive pagers which killed at least 12 people

A British-educated businesswoman has denied allegations of manufacturing the pagers used in an audacious attack against Hezbollah.

The handheld devices killed at least 12 people and injured 3,000 after they simultaneously detonated across Lebanon and Syria on Tuesday afternoon in a suspected Israeli operation.

The Taiwanese company whose branding was on the technology claimed Budapest-based firm BAC Consultancy made the devices under a three-year brand licensing agreement.

But University College London (UCL) graduate Cristiana Barsony-Arcidiacono, the CEO of BAC Consultancy, said she was just a link in the supply chain and did not make the pagers.
