I've been reading comments and news all day about Ukraine and Russia hitting each other with missile attacks and Putin basically reiterating that the UK and USA may get targeted for helping Ukraine attack Russia. Biden definitely escalated the issue post election.

In the post above I mentioned foreign actors who want to wipe the US (and the west) off the planet. But I forgot a large group of Americans who are literally praying for WWIII and Armageddon. Some believe they'll be "raptured" off the planet and into heaven when the nukes start to fly. Others are waiting for the Lord to descend from heaven on a white horse and do battle with the evil ones.

Let's not get into a religious discussion here but instead focus on some of these peeps getting into positions of power where they can do things to bring this about.

All Putin has ever wanted was to be accepted in the west and to be a player on the world stage. World domination was never on the table. Look around since the end of WW2 and who has invaded and destroyed more countries than anyone? Who has more bases all around the world than anyone?
Putin just wants free and open trade like our founding fathers intended. The mIC has gotten so large that it is an integral part of our economy and needed for real GDP growth. War=profits for them and the bigger the better. If we can get Russia we also get an enormous amount of resources. So there is that as well.

Imagine if we cut that part of our budget in half. I think we'd be able to do single payer health care with ease and also fund social security with a breeze. Unfortunately, our bought and paid for shepherds (both parties) have sold us down the drain a long time ago.

I think we could easily accomplish this.
1st we get out of NATO and the UN.
2) close all military bases not on US soil and many that are on US soil.
3) In conjunction with 1 we bring ll our military toys back to US soils or waters. Mothball most of the navy.
4) we announce to the world that we are no longer the world police. Countries will have to sort out their own affairs, however if another situation should arise similar to Hitler we are prepared to jump in and help out.
5) Engage in much better diplomacy that, you do what we say or else. Cooperation among nations is key. Open dialog prevents wars (Just the opposite of what the MIC wants).
6) No more standing army. States can have well organized militias and in the event of an invasion where the invaders get past our nuclear arsenal raining down upon them, then our national guard can be deployed where needed.

You get the idea. Once you start thinking along these lines its obvious we can defend ourselves if need be for a fraction of what we currently spend. Cut defense spending by 80-90% along with cutting the rest of the fed gov by the same amount and pretty soon we stop borrowing and start paying down the debt at a fairly quick rate.
