Prime rib.
That looks nice! It looks like the seven dollar a pound roasts are gone forever. As a special treat for my birthday, I bought a "choice" ribeye from the local store. It was just okay. Damn. Are any ribeyes graded select? If so, this was probably upgraded. Disappointment.

Now it seems that they are permanently priced well over twelve dollars a pound. So long, ribeye and prime rib, it was a good ride.

EDIT: I recently got a gift card for Applebees, and I ordered a ribeye. It was super over-priced, but it was actually really good. I doubt they got "prime", but probably a high grade "choice".

Mike Colameco's Real Food NYC PIZZA

Sep 3, 2024

NYC Pizza / the 21st century Pizza Renaissance: In a city justly famous for its great pizza there was a paradigm shift starting in 2004 with the opening of Anthony Mangieri's Una Pizza Napoletana on 12th St. Natural leavened via slow fermentation, baked in a custom imported wood burning oven, these pies were a game changer. In 2009 Roberto Caporuscio, trained in Napoli, opened Keste on Bleecker Street, a short half block down from the classic old school coal fired John's, and then we hit Joe's, the legendary slice joint around the corner on Carmine, and finally no knead baking savant Jim Lahey and his Co., in Chelsea.

Ummm...he shares with me. I cannot prepare or eat without him rubning on my legs or meowing. That cat knows the magic stainless steel box keeps everything cold and when the door opens it's chow time.

Let's Make A Long Island Pickle Sandwich! 🥒 Popular Viral Pickle Sandwich

Grandpa and I went to the 44th Annual Pickle Festival held at the John Gardiner Farm Park in Greenlawn, New York on Long Island this year. We bought some honey and also some pickles and we decided to make some pickle sandwiches since they have been so popular here on Long Island recently. This video shows you how to make one. I made a ham and cheese sandwich for Grandpa, but of course, you can make any kind of sandwich that you like with the pickles.

PETER LUGER LEGENDARY STEAKHOUSE - Brooklyn New York's Iconic Restaurant - 0/5 stars?!?!

A visit to New York just wouldn't be complete without a visit to the legendary iconic steakhouse! That is Peter Luger Steakhouse since 1887 in Brooklyn. It's not without controversy as many years ago, a New York Times Food Critic by the name of Pete Wells gave the steakhouse a scathing 0/5 star review. Now I've been to the one in Las Vegas ... the Peter Luger Steakhouse at Caesars Palace and it was amazing (aside from the $18 sliced tomatoes). Great steaks and great sides with a touch of Vegas glamor. I'm curious if the original Brooklyn location is just as good or is the Pete Wells review correct 🤔. It'll be fun to find out and great to find out together!

The classic German charm of the restaurant was everything I expected. Nothing fancy or pretentious; and old school ambiance catering to the timeless classics! An old fashioned, a juicy burger, a glass of cab, a fine porterhouse steak... The classics never goes out of style. Amazing servers and hosts makes for a memorable and enjoyable meal. And just as a tip, as larger as your order may be, please don't miss out on the burger! Thanks to the great tip from ‪@dannythemedic‬ , their burgers are second to none!

It’s been a blast, South Philly, but the iconic Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill & Italian Restaurant is closing after 33 years

Business has been blowing up at Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill & Italian Restaurant, as Deb Barbato said Wednesday, catching her pun with a smile.

She and her husband, Frank, who have run the kitschy South Philadelphia institution for nearly 34 years, announced their retirement that morning on social media. Longtime customers are flocking in before the finale on Dec. 28 for mussels, stuffed calamari, clams and linguine, $3 happy-hour mugs, warm hugs, and racks of baby-back ribs — the Barbatos’ culinary differentiator in this red-gravy stronghold.

Frank Barbato’s father, Frank Sr., bought what was then a corner bar at 1026 Wolf St. in 1951. The family lived above it when Frank Jr. came along in 1955, and the father and son worked side by side starting in 1975, selling drinks and a bar menu. Deb Barbato, also 69, managed the advertising department at the South Philadelphia Review when she met Frank Jr. They married in 1984.

The restaurant community remembers Hiroyuki ‘Zama’ Tanaka, a friend and mentor

After 15 years, it’s business as usual at Zama, the Japanese restaurant just north of Rittenhouse Square. The sushi bar thrums with the happy give and take between chefs and customers beneath the luminous papier-mâché fish that hangs from the black ceiling. The kitchen slings Zama favorites, such as the soft-shell shrimp and the short rib braised in Kirin Ichiban beer.

What’s impressive is that the restaurant feels just as it always has, nearly three months since the death of its founder, chef Hiroyuki “Zama” Tanaka, at 53. Though Tanaka had fought lymphoma for three years — and was in the restaurant only periodically over the last year — his death was unexpected.
