What you need to know today​

Markets ended week in the red
U.S. markets slumped on Friday and ended the week lower. The S&P 500 fell 1.32%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.7% and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 2.24%. Asia-Pacific stocks mostly rose on Monday. South Korea’s Kospi was up around 1.7% after shares of Samsung Electronics jumped. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was the outlier, falling 1%.

Nasdaq jumps 1% as Wall Street looks past Russia-Ukraine tensions, Nvidia shares surge: Live updates​

Dow rises more than 400 points for record close, Wall Street posts weekly gain: Live updates​

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced on Friday as the major U.S. indexes headed for weekly gains.

The blue-chip Dow gained 384 points, or 0.9%. The S&P 500 added 0.3%. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.2%, with gains restricted due to slides of more than 3% and 1% in Nvidia and Alphabet, respectively.

All three major averages are on track to end the week more than 1.5% higher. That marks a turn from last week, when Wall Street’s postelection rally stalled.

Stock futures rise Sunday ahead of shortened trading week: Live updates​

U.S. stock futures climbed Sunday night as Wall Street kicked off a shortened Thanksgiving trading week. Markets are closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving Day and end early on Friday.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 221 points, or 0.5%. Futures tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 advanced 0.4% each.

The major averages are coming off a winning week as the postelection rally picked up again. The 30-stock Dow advanced around 2% last week and finished at a record close. Meanwhile, the broad market index and Nasdaq Composite each rose about 1.7%. The small-cap Russell 2000 jumped roughly 4.5% during the week.

U.S. Treasury yields slipped back on Monday after Wall Street money manager Scott Bessent got the nod to be the next Treasury Secretary, with markets hoping his take on tax cuts and tariffs may at least be sensitive to edgy investor concerns.

Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday week, President-elect Donald Trump ended intense speculation over the Treasury pick late on Friday and put Bessent forward for the job.

Stock futures inch higher on Monday after Dow closes at another record: Live updates​
