Dow futures jump 200 points, led by Salesforce surge: Live updates​

Stock futures rose Wednesday as Salesforce and Marvell Technology led tech shares higher on the back of strong quarterly earnings.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average were up 223 points, or 0.5%. S&P 500 futures climbed 0.3%, and Nasdaq-100 futures jumped 0.7%.

Salesforce climbed 13% after the company posted fiscal third-quarter revenue that beat estimates. Chipmaker Marvell also beat earnings expectations and issued strong fourth-quarter guidance.

Walmart's CEO had wine delivered by drone to his front door and believes it's key to the company's future success​

  • Walmart's chief, Doug McMillon, got his wine sent to him by drone.
  • He lives in one of the areas in the US in which Walmart offers drone deliveries.
  • He said Walmart's future looked like "urgent deliveries happening in a really fast time."

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Global Consumer and Retail Conference in New York on Tuesday, the head of the country's largest supermarket chain said he got wine delivered by drone right to his front door.

He said he ordered the drone delivery when his wife Shelley realized she didn't have a key ingredient in the kitchen.

Stock futures are little changed after S&P 500, Nasdaq notch new closing highs: Live updates​

U.S. stock futures were relatively unchanged on Wednesday night following a record day for stocks.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 18 points, or 0.04%. On the other hand, S&P 500 futures slid 0.08%, and Nasdaq-100 futures moved 0.1% lower.

In extended trading, retailer American Eagle fell more than 13% after the company provided a weak forecast for the holiday quarter. By contrast, discount retailer Five Below surged around 14% on the heels of a better-than-expected third-quarter report.

S&P 500 rises to a record close Friday, posts third straight winning week: Live updates​

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite rose to fresh intraday highs on Friday after November jobs data came in slightly better than expected, but not so hot as to deter the Federal Reserve from cutting rates again later this month.

The broad market S&P climbed 0.2%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq advanced 0.7%, bolstered by a 3% gain in Tesla and 2% gains in Meta and Amazon. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 140 points, or 0.3%.

Stock futures fall slightly after S&P 500 posts third-straight winning week: Live updates​

.S. stock futures were slightly lower on Monday after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite posted their third straight winning week, ahead of key inflation data due out this week.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures dropped by 16 points, or 0.04%. S&P 500 futures fell a slight 0.1%, along with Nasdaq-100 futures.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at fresh records Friday, rising 1% and 3.3% for the week, respectively. The Dow was the lone laggard, closing the week down 0.6%.

In this episode, Sal Mercogliano—a maritime historian at Campbell University (@campbelledu) and former merchant mariner — discusses how amidst the widening Western sanctions Russia managed to increase Arctic transit cargo by almost 50 percent over 2023. Its main Arctic shipping lane, the Northern Sea Route, recorded 97 transits carrying close to 3m tons of cargo; both figures surpassing previous highs. Total cargo volume along the route, including transits and traffic originating in Russia, stands at around 40m tons in 2024.

Stock futures are little changed as investors brace for key inflation data: Live updates​

Stock futures are near flat Tuesday night as investors gear up for incoming inflation data.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 18 points, sitting near the flatline. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures ticked higher by 0.1% each.

Traders are awaiting November’s consumer price index reading due in the morning. Economists polled by Dow Jones are expecting the inflation gauge, which tracks a basket of goods and services, to rise 0.3% from October and 2.7% compared with a year ago. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the so-called core CPI is slated to increase 0.3% on the month and 3.3% from 12 months earlier.
