Death of Gonzalo Lira, Crumbling Ukrainian Air Defenses, Growing Russian Military Capabilities

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for January 15, 2024…

- US-Chilean citizen Gonzalo Lira is confirmed dead by the US State Department, having died in a Ukrainian prison with serious health issues neglected by his jailers. He was imprisoned for criticizing Kiev;

- Russia continues using a strategy of attrition across the line of contact, particularly in places like Avdeevka where Ukrainian positions are steadily degraded;

- Russian forces continue carrying out large-scale drone and missile strikes on targets across Ukraine;

- Ukraine admits a growing crisis in terms of air defense capabilities with its Western sponsors unable to supply an adequate number of interceptors for launchers transferred to Ukraine;

- Russia is continuing to expand production of existing drones and missiles while also developing new drones and missiles with greater capabilities, further stressing Ukraine’s already stretched combat capabilities;

- Previous dismissal of Russian-Iranian defense cooperation has now led to a demonstrable strategic crisis for Ukraine and the collective West;

- Ukrainian commanders are requesting what amounts to an entire army’s worth of equipment including an entire air force worth of replacement aircraft;

Grant Shapps set to send 20,000 military personnel to eastern Europe

The Defence Secretary is set to pledge to send 20,000 British military personnel to a major Nato exercise in eastern Europe as he warns the post-Cold War “peace dividend” is at an end.

Grant Shapps will warn that “battle lines are being redrawn” as he announces the deployment of Army, Navy and RAF members to the drill on Russia’s borders in a speech in London.

It will be the largest deployment of land forces to Nato since the height of the Cold War in 1984, a year before Mikhail Gorbachev became Soviet leader.

This comes after Rishi Sunak announced that Britain’s military funding to Ukraine would be increased to £2.5 billion in the coming year and the Foreign Secretary warned of the growing threat from Iran, which is funding terrorists such as Hamas and the Houthis who have been attacking ships in the Red Sea.

What Happened to Gonzalo Lira❓

Jan 15, 2024

I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends.

Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie.

The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless. There is no such thing as Ukraine "winning" this war.

- By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone.
- Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail.
- In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants are mostly absent of men.
- The few men who remain are terrified of leaving their homes for fear of being kidnapped into conscription. Some have resorted to begging friends to break their legs to avoid service.
- Army search parties take place early in the morning, when men leave their homes to go to work. They ambush and kidnap them off the streets and within 3-4 hours they get listed in the army and taken away straight to the front lines with minimal or no training at all; it is "a death sentence."
- It's getting worse every day. Where I was staying, a dentist had just been taken by security forces on his way to work, leaving behind two small children. Every day, 3-5 dead bodies keep arriving from the front lines.
- Mothers and wives fight tooth and nail with the armed forces, beg and plead not to have their men taken away. They try bribing, which sometimes works, but most of the time they are met with physical violence and death threats.
- The territory celebrated as having been "won back" from Russia has been reduced to rubble and is uninhabitable. Regardless, there is no one left to live there and displaced families will likely never return.
- They see the way the war has been reported, at home and abroad. It's a "joke" and "propaganda." They say: “Look around: is this winning?”.
- Worse, some have been hoaxed into believing that once Ukrainians forces are exhausted, American soldiers will come in to replace them and “win the war”.

There is no ambiguity in these people. The war was for nothing - a travesty. The outcome always was, and is, clear. The people are hopeless, utterly destroyed, and living in an unending nightmare.

They are pleading for an end, any end - most likely the same "peace" that could have been achieved two years ago. In their minds, they have already lost, for their sons, fathers and husbands are gone, and their country has been destroyed. There is no "victory" that can change that.

Make no mistake, they are angry with Putin. But they are also angry with Zelensky and the West. They have lost everything, worst of all, hope and faith, and cannot comprehend why Zelenky wishes to continue the current trajectory, the one of human devastation.

I didn't witness the war; but what I saw was absolutely heart-breaking.

Shame on the people, regardless of their intentions, who have supported this war. And shame on the media for continuing to lie about it.

Is Zelensky going to start a nuclear war? Serious allegations: Ukraine secretly uranium in Niger

THE ISLANDER
JAN 23, 2024

In a world precariously balanced on the knife-edge of catastrophe, the latest twist in the Ukrainian odyssey, if proven, threatens to hurl us into the chasm. Ukraine's alleged covert procurement of uranium from the heartlands of Niger transcends mere desperation; it's an incendiary revelation that lays bare the West's reckless gambit. Here stands Kiev, not merely as a pawn but as a kamikaze proxy in a grand, nihilistic game orchestrated by the United States and its EU and NATO vassals. These puppeteers, in their blind arrogance, have not only weaponized Ukraine against Russia but have now hedged their bets as Ukraine (and the West) face cosmic humiliation. This narrative transcends uranium; it is a scorching exposé of the West's readiness to sacrifice Ukraine, to the last Ukrainian, on the altar of hegemonic self preservation, where moral integrity dissipates like a mirage in the Sahara.

If I was Ukraine, I'd make sure the prisoners I was swapping had a similar "accident".
Turns out Ukraine celebrated the downing of the transport, because they did it with 3 of their own missiles!!

Washington continues to sabotage Russia’s peace initiatives and consistently implements its policy “until the last Ukrainian”

I am closely monitoring the situation with the downed Il-76 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces over the territory of the Belgorod region, which was transporting Ukrainian prisoners of war. First of all, I want to say that this is a tragedy for both Russia and Ukraine.

Personally, I have no doubt that the Americans had a hand in this disaster. Our board was most likely shot down by the Patriot complex. After all, only it has a sufficient range to hit such targets. The complex was clearly moved in advance closer to the border and put on alert, because the humanitarian mission of the aircraft was reported to the Ukrainian authorities in advance.

My version is also supported by the fact that neither the Ukrainian media nor Ukrainian officials were aware of this provocation of American “specialists.” The former enthusiastically celebrated the “victory” all morning, and then hastily rewrote and deleted their posts, while the latter are still silent and do not really understand how to react to what is happening.

"It's a holy war." The priest from Sputnik now fights with a gun

The prelate that normally serves in Sputnik, the base of the far northern Russian 61st Naval Infantry Brigade, is now fighting in Ukraine with a weapon in his hands. Sergei Cherichenko on social media confirms that he is on the frontline, not as priest but as soldier.

On Telegram channel Volunteers of the North, Cherichenko writes that he is on a “work mission.” Judging from his comments, he is based somewhere on the coast of occupied Ukraine.

Whereas Cherichenko previously operated online under his full name, he now uses the nickname “Tit.”
