On August 23, Russia celebrates the Day of Military Glory, commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in the Battle of Kursk in 1943.

This pivotal battle, lasting from July 5 to August 23, was one of the most significant engagements of the Great Patriotic War.

The German command, under the operation code "Citadel," aimed to launch a massive summer offensive to destroy the Red Army’s central forces and regain strategic initiative. The operation involved 50 divisions, including 16 tank and motorized divisions, and numerous separate units, supported by over 900,000 men, about 10,000 guns and mortars, 2,700 tanks and assault guns, and 2,000 aircraft.

The Soviet Central, Voronezh, and Steppe Fronts countered with over 1.9 million soldiers, 26,000 guns and mortars, 5,000 tanks and self-propelled artillery units, and 3,000 aircraft.

On July 5, 1943, German troops began their offensive from Orel and Belgorod. The Central Front repelled the attack from Orel, while the Voronezh Front faced the Belgorod offensive.

A crucial tank battle occurred on July 12 near Prokhorovka, involving about 1,200 tanks and self-propelled guns. The Germans aimed to encircle and destroy Soviet forces, but ended up retreating.

By August 23, Soviet forces, supported by air strikes, had pushed the enemy 140-150 kilometers west, liberating Orel, Belgorod, and Kharkov.

The Battle of Kursk saw over 4 million participants, 70,000 guns and mortars, 13,000 tanks and self-propelled guns, and 12,000 combat aircraft. German losses included 30 divisions, 500,000 soldiers, 1,500 tanks, 3,700 aircraft, and 3,000 guns, while the Soviet losses were over 860,000 soldiers, including 255,000 killed or missing.

For their bravery, more than 180 Soviet soldiers were awarded Hero of the Soviet Union, and over 100,000 received orders and medals. The Battle of Kursk shifted the balance of power in favor of the Red Army, paving the way for a successful strategic offensive and eventual Russian victory in WWII.

Kursk region: Strong Ukrainian attacks towards Korenevo and Lgov (Map 1). In the Korenevo sector, the Ukrainians operate in the rear of the Russian grouping in Olgovka-Kremyanaya and keep reinforcing their positions. It's likely that the Russians will have to abandon their semi-encircled positions and withdraw towards Korenevo itself. In the Lgov sector, there is a similar situation in Malaya Loknya (where the Ukrainian army has gained a foothold), Cherkasskoe Porechnoe, and Russkoe Porechnoe. Ukrainian attacks in this area are very persistent, and they are about to throw fresh reserves into battle, so these settlements look likely to fall.

Toretsk sector (Map 2): The Russians took full control of the high-rise neighborhood in the northeastern part of the city. This enables them to further envelope the remaining high-rise buildings in the city center from the north, as well as to cut the main roads supplying the Ukrainian grouping from Konstantinovka.

Pokrovsk sector (Map 3): Russians made important gains in Grodovka, Novogrodovka, and Kalinovo. Half of Grodovka has been taken, and there is fighting well inside Novogrodovka, which is likely to fall soon. To the southeast, the Russians continue to storm Kalinovo, the loss of which will most likely force the Ukrainians to abandon their positions in Karlovka without a fight (Karlovka being one of the few settlements left from which the Ukrainians can still shell Donetsk city). The Russians thus continue to push towards Selidovo and Ukrainsk, the loss of which will put the entire Kurakhovo front of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at risk of encirclement.

An exhibition showcasing captured NATO equipment has opened in Kemerovo.

A prominent location in the city was chosen for the display, allowing the people of Kuzbass to see the "monsters" the West has sent against Russian troops.

The exhibition runs from August 22 to August 31, from 10:00 to 21:00, with free admission.

The attached video, created by Kuzbass fighters, shows how Ukrainian forces lose their equipment, which is now on display as trophies. With the first strike, the Russian fighters immobilize the enemy; with the second, they finish them off.

Moscow takes control over assets of Western companies​

Sept 6 (Reuters) - Kremlin has been seizing assets of some Western companies in Russia through decrees signed by President Vladimir Putin and court orders related to lawsuits over halted projects or blocked funds amid Western sanctions.
Below is a list of the companies affected so far.

Russia seized companies of agricultural group AgroTerra and placed them under temporary management in April, including some backed by Dutch investment firms.

WHAT, of the Forever-War DemocRats screaming "Russia-Russia-Russia!" and dreamy EU legislatreuxes speaking of how Putin is going to be @$$@$$inated, and how Russia is running out of chips/weapons/bullets/etc. and the endless braying for "MOAR AID$$$"...whatever would make you, or Putin, think something is up?

I suspect, without knowing anything, that Putin, too, knows he can lose his power base if he does not respond to the repeated civilian attacks within Russia proper. He's probably weighing the power of the DNC fraud effort, and trying to decide if it's better for him to wait until after the sElection, or just go ahead and seek retribution now.
 
One thing is certain... Russia is and has been kicking Ukraine's assets back to the Stone Age despite the media protestations to the contrary.
 

Russia Is on a Slow Path to Bankruptcy, But How Slow?​

Russia is faced with an insoluble equation: how to finance a war in the long term, for which expenditure is soaring while budget revenues are falling, against a backdrop of tightened sanctions. Between rising taxes, falling hydrocarbon revenues, inflation, and crises in employment and foreign investment, with a labor market short by 4.8 million workers (about 7 percent of the country’s labor force), and with the value of foreign assets in Russia dropping by almost 20 percent between December 2022 and March 2024, Russia has embarked on a risky gamble from which it will not emerge unscathed. Now spinning at breakneck speed on the momentum of its “war economy,” this Russian spinning top cannot slow down, or it will fall. But it may soon run out of momentum as well as finances. Russia’s economic future after 2024 rests essentially on the price of oil from the Urals and on the quantities exported, two subjects that are all the more uncertain for Russia in the near future. Russia may soon no longer be able to rely on its depleting financial reserves. With no possibility of borrowing on international financial markets, and constrained by a limited domestic financial market (in the context of China’s gradual disengagement), Russia risks nothing less than bankruptcy in the medium term.

On September 12, 1941, the legendary "Road of Life" began its operation.

The Siege of Leningrad began on September 8, 1941, when Nazi forces captured Shlisselburg, severing the city's land connection with the rest of the country. Over 2.5 million residents, including 400,000 children, were trapped in the city. The only remaining lifeline for supplying besieged Leningrad was across the water—and later, the ice—of Lake Ladoga, a route that would later be known as "The Road of Life."

On September 12, 1941, the first convoy of ships arrived at the port of Osinovets, delivering 800 tons of grain and 60 tons of ammunition. By November 15, when navigation officially ended, more than 24,000 tons of grain, flour, and cereals, over 1,000 tons of meat and dairy products, and other supplies had been delivered to the city. Additionally, 33,500 civilians and wounded were evacuated.

With the onset of winter, an ice road on Lake Ladoga became operational. This is when the city's residents dubbed it the "Road of Life." Initially, sleds were used, and as the ice thickened, vehicles began crossing.

During the first and harshest winter of the siege, from 1941 to 1942, over 360,000 tons of supplies were delivered to Leningrad via the "Road of Life." Six rifle divisions and a tank brigade were also transported. A total of 539,400 Leningrad residents were evacuated.

On January 18, 1943, Soviet troops captured Shlisselburg, breaking the siege of the city.

In total, over 1.6 million tons of supplies were transported to Leningrad via the "Road of Life" during its entire operation, and about 1.4 million people were evacuated from the city.

Russian political analyst Sergey Karaganov (pictured above) has suggested that Russia should be prepared to use nuclear weapons in response to attacks on its territory or the seizure of its land.

In an interview (https://www.kommersant.ru/amp/7059257) with "Kommersant," Karaganov, who is the honorary chairman of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, argued for a revision of Russia's nuclear doctrine to include the concept of "nuclear escalation" to deter adversaries. He believes that the current doctrine does not effectively serve as a deterrent and hinders the use of nuclear weapons' "other useful functions".

Karaganov has previously advocated for changes to Russia's nuclear policy, even suggesting a potential nuclear strike on Europe if adversaries do not reconsider their actions. However, this proposal was deemed unacceptable by members of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy.

He emphasized that initial responses to attacks should be conventional, but nuclear strikes should follow if necessary, particularly targeting NATO countries that support Ukraine.

Karaganov acknowledges the gravity of using nuclear weapons, which would result in the loss of innocent lives, but considers it necessary to convince adversaries of Russia's readiness to use them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that nuclear weapons would only be used in exceptional cases threatening national sovereignty and has not ruled out changes to the nuclear doctrine. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov indicated that revisions to the doctrine are at an advanced stage, driven by extensive Western involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
