King of the Fells: Joss Naylor, the shepherd with an unbeatable running record

Dec 18, 2024 UNITED KINGDOM

Fell running is a demanding endurance sport and Joss Naylor ran with all his heart. Fuelled by apple cake and Guinness, the English sheep farmer from the Lake District, an idyllic part of north-west England, broke multiple long-distance running records.

In 1971, he ran the fastest known time on Britain's National Three Peaks, a record that stands today; aged 50, he ran all 214 Wainwrights in seven days; when he turned 60, he ran 60 Lakeland fell tops in 36 hours; and at 70, he ran 70 fells. Naylor died this year at the age of 88. His indomitable spirit and unwavering resilience live on in his inspiring athletic legacy.

These Habits Are WEAKENING Your Body - REWILD Yourself!

Jan 31, 2025

In this post, I explore the many ways that modern lifestyles impact negatively on our health and fitness.
We’ve all heard that sitting can shorten your lifespan. That we literally die earlier, the longer we sit. This is a problem.
But what you might also miss is how sitting is actually ruining your performance. How sitting causes tightness, muscular imbalances, weak areas, stiffness, pain, poor movement. It affects our energy levels… even our ability to breathe healthily!
And it’s not just sitting, either. Many aspects of our current lifestyles cause serious damage - including staring at a computer screen all day, performing workouts that only focus on mirror muscles, consuming copious amounts of stimulants, getting into arguments online, commuting, wearing restrictive clothing…
In this video, I address some of the biggest detriments to our health and the things we can do to address them. I discuss how we can “re-wild” ourselves, by training in such a way as to specifically target these shortcomings.
Enjoy!

The Lost Art of Roadwork

Feb 3, 2025
Before getting deep into this , First, let's get one thing straight: boxing roadwork is NOT the same as distance running, nor should it be treated as such. If you want to be a runner, be a runner—nothing wrong with that. It's a great sport with many benefits, although preparing you for the ring isn't one of them. If you’re not doing roadwork, you’re not really training for boxing. Muhammad Ali used to say that fights were “won or lost on the road.” Unfortunately, programming roadwork for boxing isn’t as easy as lacing up your shoes and running until you’re tired.
