What would they do with it if they did?

It's a constructive total loss. It's only value is scrap - and most of what it has, won't be salvageable. The engines and machinery, are toast. It's not going to sail again.

If there's an environmental advantage to getting it up...fine, but who pays for it? Tens of millions of dollars will be spent, and no value whatsoever recovered.
I suspect Italy will pay for it and then they'll sue the owner's estate?

It's a shame.

It's the best option; they tried for 30 years to avoid it; but it's a shame.

And we're right at the point of reduced standards of living...to where, literally, a five-day water passage to Europe (if anyone will even WANT to go there, with the animalizing of European cities) would be the best way. Far less dependent on infrastructure, or trust...trust in the aircraft makers and maintainers, trust in the pilot's health, trust that the plane is not shot down.

But the level of decomposition and piecemeal scrapping is such that, that ship is not going to sail again. It's not cost effective to refurbish it.

Enjoy the ride towards Greenland!

Funny thing...about 500 miles away, we're getting none of it. There's a winter-storm warning on Lookout Pass, a hundred miles west on I-90, but that's par for the season. Nothing locally.

Local storm that completely dissipates. Completely unnatural. Can you spell "HAARP," boys and girls?

1100 miles from Connecticut to Florida, mostly offset a couple hundred miles. This trip was one of the least fun trips we have made in SVP. But lessons were learned.
