Zelenskyy makes one more push for aid before Christmas recess​

A day before meetings on Capitol Hill, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the delay in the U.S. approving further assistance for his country’s defensive war against Russia was offering inspiration to Vladimir Putin.

“Let me be frank with you, friends: If there’s anyone inspired by unresolved issues on Capitol Hill, it’s just Putin and his sick clique,” Zelenskyy said Monday at the National Defense University, where he appeared with Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III.

Republicans are secretly meeting with allies of 'Putin’s buddy' to end Ukraine Aid: report​

Congressional Republicans are meeting in secret this week behind closed doors with allies of the far-right Christian nationalist authoritarian Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán. Those allies, including from a Hungarian government agency that reportedly organized a far-right U.S. group’s conference in Budapest, are working to support Russian President Vladimir Putin’s illegal war against Ukraine. GOP lawmakers, especially in the House but increasingly in the Senate, have been voicing strong opposition to the U.S. sending any additional funding to Ukraine.

“Members of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and staff from the Hungarian embassy in Washington will on Monday begin a two-day event hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation thinktank,” The Guardian reports. The Heritage Foundation, once considered the premier conservative think tank, by 2016 was a pro-Trump group. Now, Heritage is behind the massive Project 2025, which aims to install tens of thousands of pro-Trump loyalists into the federal government if the ex-president re-takes the White House.

Russia enters Christmas with rocket splash-down next to Norway's Vardø radar​

“Tempo danger area” reads the Notice to Airman (NOTAM) issued by Russia for a nearly 90 km north-south stretch in the outer Varanger fjord in the period December 21st to 25th.

The NOTAM also reads “Impact area for Russian missiles” and has a corresponding warning further northwest in the Barents Sea, between Bear Island and Svalbard in Norwegian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Although no space launches have yet been announced for the period, the warnings could be related to a splash-down from a rocket bringing one or several Arctic satellites into orbit.

Ukraine received $1.34 bln under World Bank project - finance ministry​

KYIV, Dec 25 (Reuters) - Ukraine received $1.34 billion under the World Bank's public expenditures for administrative capacity endurance in Ukraine, the Ukrainian finance ministry said on Monday.

The ministry said in a statement the financing consisted of a $1.086 billion loan from the World Bank, $190 million grant from Norway, $50 million grant from the United States and $20 million grant from Switzerland.

The ministry said the funds would be used to partially compensate for non-security and defence-related expenditures of the Ukrainian state budget, including old-age social payments and payments to employees of the state emergency service.

In a brief message Tuesday morning, the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the Ropucha-class landing ship Novocherkassk was destroyed in Feodosia, Crimea overnight. The AFU credited the attack to Ukrainian Air Force pilots.

Washington’s ‘Ship of Fools’ Delude Themselves About Russia’s Intent​


On Christmas Day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his generals sent a strong message with the violent destruction of the Russian naval landing ship Novocherkassk while it was docked in Feodosia, Crimea. The vessel was suspected of carrying Iranian-made drones.

With the hit, Zelenskyy’s messaging was threefold: One, Kyiv has no intention of negotiating away any of its territory, regardless of how many “peace feelers” Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin may have floated in Washington and Brussels. Two, Ukraine remains intent on militarily retaking the entire Crimean Peninsula. And three, the Ukrainian army will fight on, with or without U.S. military aid and economic support.

While Ukraine continues to push back against Russia, Washington remains at war with itself. Ideally, the Christmas weekend should have brought hope to the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russian aggression. Instead, it became another lost weekend.

MOSCOW, Dec 28 (Reuters) - After President Vladimir Putin sent troops into Ukraine in 2022, the United States and its allies prohibited transactions with Russia's central bank and finance ministry, blocking around $300 billion of sovereign Russian assets in the West.

The United States has proposed that working groups from the Group of Seven (G7) major industrialized nations explore ways to seize that money, according to the Financial Times.

What are these assets, where are they and what could Russia do if the assets were confiscated?

Karl Sanchez does good work translating statements from top Russian politicians and I would have seen it if it was legit .
